Activity Program Learning Outcomes (APLO)
After completion of the class, the students shall be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in the execution of the motor/sport skills appropriate to the specific activities completed.
- Identify and/or explain the applicable history, rules, strategies, current research, safety, and etiquette related to the specific activities completed.
- Identify and/or explain the benefits of physical activity as related to physical and mental health
General Education Program Objectives (GELO)
A university combines many different fields of study, but it’s more than just a collection of subjects. The SJSU General Education Program focuses on building skills, gaining knowledge, and connecting ideas through studying facts, issues, and concepts. All undergraduates, regardless of major, share core educational experiences, helping them become well-rounded scholars. Together with major, minor, and elective courses, General Education aims to develop qualities of an educated individual.
Students completing the General Education curriculum should be able to demonstrate:
- Knowledge of Human Cultures and the Physical and Natural World engaging with important questions through studies in sciences, social sciences, humanities, histories, languages, and the arts.
- Intellectual and Practical Skills developed through increasingly complex problems and projects.
- Personal and Social Responsibility built through active engagement with diverse communities and real-world challenges.
- Integrative Learning shown by applying knowledge, skills, and responsibilities to new and complex situations.
Academic discourse should be civil and respectful of diverse viewpoints. All courses emphasize ethical responsibility, encouraging students and instructors to respect different learning styles and forms of expression.
Graduate Program Learning Outcomes (GPLO)
Upon completion of a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology, students should be able to achieve the following within their field of study:
GPLO 1: Demonstrate the ability to critique and conduct research using theoretical
and applied knowledge.
GPLO 2: Synthesize research findings from a disciplinary perspective.
GPLO 3: Communicate essential theories, scientific applications, and ethical considerations.
GPLO 4: Apply research findings through acquired knowledge to address contemporary issues as agents of change.

Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science degree program in the Department of Kinesiology students will be able to:
- Explain, identify, and/or demonstrate the theoretical and/or scientific principles that can be used to address issues or problems in the sub-disciplines in kinesiology.
- Effectively communicate in writing (clear, concise and coherent) on topics in kinesiology.
- Effectively communicate through an oral presentation (clear, concise and coherent) on topics in kinesiology.
- Utilize their experiences across a variety of health related and skill-based activities to inform their scholarship and practice in the sub disciplines in kinesiology.
- Identify and analyze social justice and equity issues related to kinesiology for diverse populations.
